HAPPY NAIL YEAR GIVEAWAY – FEBRUARY

Happy Nail Year Varnishtas!

Another month has passed and I’ve had so much fun showcasing the amazing varnish collections that SinfulColors has to offer! There has been many ups, few downs and lots of surprises this month and I hope I’ve kept you entertained.

February has come to an end, which means it’s giveaway time! Yay!

This month, one lucky Varnishta will get to take home the SINFULCOLORS PROFESSIONAL FLIRT WITH HEARTS COLLECTION– well, a modified version of it anyway!

giveThis amazing collection is filled with 8 full size (.5 fl oz/15ml) varnish bottles that come in a wide range of colors (as seen above).

Now if you’ve been following my ongoing nail varnish series entitled “The Hunt”, you know that all this month I have been hunting down these beautiful colors to complete the collection for you all! And again, if you’ve been following- you know that I have failed to find all but one color. The infamous Love Sprinkles has been the bane of my February and trust me- I have gone to over 20 shops in my area and I have not been about to locate it. (It has appeared on and offline- however I am not going to pay $6-10 for a polish that is under $2. Sorry)

However, to make up for my hunting fail- St. Patrick’s Day is coming up on March 17th; so to help you all prepare for this lucky day- I have included the SinfulColors Shamrockin’ to help you get ready for the upcoming celebration! So that means this giveaway will have:

MONTH IN REVIEW- SINFULCOLORS PROFESSIONAL FAVORITES

fix

Once again, we’ve come to the end of the month and it’s time to round up my favorite varnishes the Happy Nail Year Varnish of the Month- Sinful Colors! Even though I have tried a lot of these colors, I’ve narrowed my choices down to four must-haves from this amazing brand that everyone should try!

  • RISE & SHINE
    • I used this beautiful color for my Valen-teal’s Day Tutorial and let me tell you, this color works wonders. It’s thick, it’s rich, the dry time is quick and the color stays! It’s so bold and beautiful that I contemplated not even using a top coat with this. I wouldn’t say teal was ever my “go to” color for anything, but it definitely stole my heart this time. Thanks to SinfulColors Professional for the tip for teal on V-day, because it was a very good decision.

NAIL ENVY – OSCARS EDITION

The Oscars are over and the big award of the night is in. No, not the Academy Award- but the Varnishta Nail Oscar of course! (I know, I do the most!) With so many amazing looks from Sunday Night, it was hard to choose a favorite- however, when I took a look at this amazing actress and her full beauty look I was gagging. Seriously, so beautiful.

PHOTO FROM JUST JARED

Zoe Saldana was a pure and utter dream in her custom neutral toned Atelier Versace dress & shoes with Neil Lane jewelry. It’s the completely beauty package from such subtle glowing makeup to her effortless updo that makes everything nearly perfect. And in case you didn’t know, this is a woman that gave birth to twins just THREE MONTHS AGO and her body looks amazing.

CLOSE UP, JUST JARED

I zoomed in100 times to see what kind of polish she is actually wearing and wondering if she’s even wearing any at all! Nevertheless, with much research I discovered that she is wearing a nude pink neutral from the Jenna Hipp “New Nudes”collection.

Jenna Hipp is a Celebrity Green Nail Stylist that has A-list clientele from Zoe Saldana, Leah Michele and even Sienna Miller- trust me, the list goes on and on. She has her own nail and hand line that can be found in Costco stores and beautymostwanted.com. Not only am I in love with her work, but I am in love with her brand and cannot wait to get my hands on a bottle from her collection!

Sometimes you don’t need some dramatic color or an out-there design to make a dress or a look stand out. Sometimes less is more and neutral is ne plus ultra. This varnish pulls everything into this clean and pristine and Jenna Hipp definitely deserves an Oscar for this one herself.

As usual, below I have linked both lovely women’s social media- but also a few fun links if you’d like to learn more about some of the hit winning Oscar nails of the night!

THE HUNT – FLIRT WITH HEARTS COLLECTION (UPDATE #3)

update copy copy2

Happy Monday Varnishtas! I need your help.

In my previous post of, The Hunt, I talked about the pitfalls of finding the last few polishes I have missing from the Sinful Colors “Flirt With Hearts” Collection. Luckily, I do have a minor update for you all!

  • GoGo Girl
  • Daredevil
  • 24-7
  • Dream On
  • Rise and Shine
  • Love Sprinkles
  • Decadent
  • Pinky Glitter

By swift chance I happened to find GoGo Girl. Since it’s after Valentine’s Day- a lot of the stores in my area have put their v-day colors in one simple bin in which you have to dig through to find the color.

And yes,

I dug. And I found this color among with a few other colors I splurged and bought with them as well.

So I brought this home and I tried it out- against the No Text Red which I already own well.

(picks up cup of tea)

It’s conspiracy theory time.

I can usually tell the difference between colors in the bottle- but sometimes colors are so similar that I untwist the top to see if I can tell from the liquid. If that doesn’t work, I swatch the colors two times:

  1. On Paper: To see any obvious differences against the white.
  2. On A Napkin: To compare the runoff (background or mixed colors) that the napkin soaked out while being swatched after putting a drop of remover in it.

And let me tell you- to me (AND AGAIN, THIS IS MY OPINION) No Text Red and GoGo Girl look exactly the same on paper, napkin in the bottle and on the nail. To the point where I’m squinting my eyes and tilting my head like- there HAS to be a difference.

They favor each other….A LOT. The only smidgen of a difference I could try to attest to is that GoGo Girl might be just a hair thicker than No Text Red. But even then I’d be stretching.

So if any of you happen to own both No Text Red and GoGo Girl– puh-lease tell me the difference between them because I am beat on the similarities of these colors.

VARNISHTA TUTORIALS – COPPER AND RED DOTTED MANICURED

gold4
This is an easy two color mix manicure brought to you by two amazing and beautiful colors that are so drool worthy on the nails! You don’t always need millions of colors for a great design! Sometimes all it takes are powerful colors that are bold enough to stand together.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

INSTRUCTIONS

  1.  Paint your nails with the clear base coat.
  2. Paint all fingers except your thumbs on both hands with Copper Pot.Allow to dry for 3-5 minutes. gold1
  3. While they are drying, paint your thumbs with No Text Red. Allow 3-5 minutes to dry. gold2
  4. Pool a small amount of each color onto a piece of paper. This way you can control how much polish you are going to use on your Nail Dotting Tool.
  5. Dip a Nail Dotting Tool into No Text Red and make three medium sized dots onto the Copper Pot polish painted nails. The dotting tool makes this easier than with a steady hand!

    HOMEMADE NAIL DOTTING TOOL

    1. If you don’t own a Nail Art Dotting Tool, check out THIS beauty cheat code for an alternative! (see right)
  6. Repeat the previous step, alternating with Copper Pot on your thumb nails painted with No Text Red.
  7. Dry for 15 minutes!
  8. Use the Sinful Colors Clear Coat as a top coat!
  9. This nail session should take about 30 minutes– depending on your patience!

WORDS OF ADVICE

  • Each varnish used in this tutorial gets an A+.
  • Copper Pot drips like butter from the applicator and glides on smooth as silk. It’s color is vibrant and luminous and I almost didn’t want to put any kind of design on it just because it looked so damn good! Bravo, Sinful Colors. BRAVO.
  • No Text Red is not only a beautiful varnish, but it comes with a message. With the No Text Red Campaign, you paint your thumb with this beautiful red color to remind you not to text and drive safely. It’s a clever and convenient way to stay safe and for that- I give it two thumbs all the way up!
  • These varnishes lasted a week and then some with no chipping, feathering or any cracking at all! I totally and completely recommend these colors!
ONE WEEK LATER

ONE WEEK LATER, AND YES, THAT IS CHICKEN IN THE BACKGROUND.

Make sure to post your own adaptations or let me know how this tutorial works out for you! Also, link me to your own Valentine’s Day nail designs! I’d love to see what styles you all went for!

BEAUTY CHEAT CODE #2: ALTERNATIVE DOTTING TOOL

Sometimes the designs we want require a little more than just the brush on the handle of a varnish. Of course, there are certain tools designed to make them happen- but we all don’t usually know where to get them or have the time to order them! So I’ve decided to share some of my beauty cheat codes that can help the every day Varnishta create the perfect design!

Dotting tools aren’t exactly expensive, but not many people end up finding the right ones. Here is a quick little how-to for a homeade dotting tool that we ALL have in our own home.

ALTERNATIVE NAIL DOTTING TOOL

What You’ll Need:

dotter1

  • A bobby pin with the wax bulb at the end.
  • Your favorite polish.

The steps are pretty easy on this one.

  1. Take a bobby pin and bend it to where the end with the wax bulb can easily be dipped in the polish.
  2. Take the lid off of your polish and pool a small amount on a piece of paper. dotter2
  3. Put the wax bulb end of the bobby pin in the pool of polish and roll it until the end is covered.
  4. Use the bobby pin to make whatever design you want on your nail art!

And tada! You’re done!

As I like to say, I’m not the first person to come up with this technique, but I thought it’d be a helpful cheat code to add to your rolodex of awesome nail art skills. If you are interested in purchasing your own Nail Dotting Tool without having to make them yourself- Here is a helpful list below:
